There are several steps a home security dealer must take to ensure your business is primed for success. Once you have a business plan in place to manage daily operations and overall goals, you must figure out how you're going to promote your business and bring in customers.

Your online presence is a primary factor in cultivating new business. It is often the first point of contact for potential customers and defines your brand. To make the best first impression possible, your website must be relevant, clear and concise. 

For alarm dealers, this means listing products and price points, providing useful industry content, and having a simple, easy to navigate layout. Make sure you don't overload the site with gimmicks, and provide contact information and a call-to-action to capture every lead. Give your customers a reason to stay on your site and remind them why your company's services are valuable to them.

Social
According to research conducted by advertising firm Marchex, 80% of business search results point to social media accounts and online reviews, rather than the actual business websites. This makes it imperative to remain active in the social realm. A strong social media presence lets consumers know that you have your finger on the pulse of your industry and a are thought leader among your peers. Stay active on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social sites, and create a blog with original content to position your company as a leader in communicating industry news, trends and new products.

Alarm dealers must be trusted and respected in order to remain successful. Tap into your existing customer base and encourage them to interact with you online and share their positive reviews. You must be aware of posts on customer review sites such as Yelp and Angie's List, and rely on past and current customers to keep your ratings high. 

Online Advertising
Online advertising can drive potential customers to your site and generate awareness of your brand. Forms of online advertising include display ads on relevant sites, search engine optimization (SEO) to help you appear in a more prominent position in search results, social media ads and boosted posts, and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. 

Advertising online doesn't have to be expensive, and it can go a long way toward driving traffic to your site. There is a lot of competition in the security industry, so it's imperative that you make yourself known.
